Bettye LaVette Reflects on "The Last Goodbye" and a Long-Awaited Gold Record
In 2022, the incredible electronic duo ODESZA released a track called The Last Goodbye, and they built it around my recording of Let Me Down Easy from way back in 1965. Before the song was even released, Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight reached out to me personally. They offered me half of the song rights — without hesitation. I was truly flattered by their respect and kindness.
In the official video, you can actually see me up there on Shindig, from all those years ago. Watching it now feels like stepping into a time machine. (You can see it here: The Last Goodbye - ODESZA (Official Video))
Now here we are — three years later, and almost sixty years since I first recorded Let Me Down Easy — and I just received my very first gold record, beautifully framed and delivered to my door.
I can't even begin to tell you how much this moment means to me. I’m so grateful to Harrison and Clayton for breathing new life into my music, and for honoring me in such a big way.
Good things really do come to those who wait.
And this — this gold record — was absolutely worth the wait.
I am truly, deeply thankful.

Would you also like a second version that's a little more casual, like how Bettye might post it on Instagram or Facebook (a little sassier but still grateful)?
I can do that too if you want!
