My Birthday with Drew Sidora at Chicago Black Pride: From Uber Chaos to Midnight Magic at Metro

My Birthday with Drew Sidora at Chicago Black Pride: From Uber Chaos to Midnight Magic at Metro

Date: July 6 2015

Let me tell y’all… Chicago Black Pride at Metro was a whole movie — and yes, Drew Sidora from The Real Housewives of Atlanta was the main character!

So let’s rewind.

I saw Drew was coming to perform for Pride and immediately hit Google. VIP tickets? ✅ Got two. Why? Because this was a pre-birthday celebration — my birthday’s June 18th, and this was on June 6th, so it was the kickoff! I even wore my birthday t-shirt, and my sister rocked her Birthday Squad shirt. You know the vibes. ๐Ÿฅณ

๐Ÿš— The Uber That Tried My Spirit

We called an Uber from the South Side and paid $50 to get to Metro Chicago. Now, I thought I was going to a concert — not the set of Fast & Furious: Chicago Drift. The driver was swerving, smoking, and stressing me out! I almost lit a cigarette myself, but I held it together (barely).

๐ŸŒˆ A Surprise Drew Sighting

As we waited outside the venue, guess who rolled up? Drew! She hopped out of what looked like a party van and started filming for Instagram right on the sidewalk. She looked gorgeous (even if she was fussing with her hair a bit ๐Ÿ˜…). I threw my hands up in the air like a true fanboy — and I might’ve ended up in her IG story for half a second. Yes, even with my gray beard!

(Side note: My shady brother saw the video later and said the guy in the wheelchair was bouncing like he was on hydraulics. He's a mess. We’ll unpack his drama another time.)

๐ŸŽŸ️ Ticket Drama at the Door

We got to Will Call, ready for that VIP experience… but my name? Nowhere to be found. I was passed around like a rumor at a family reunion. Finally, someone got it together and handed me our tickets. But by then, baby, my nerves were DONE. I needed a smoke break, so we lit up, then hit a little corner store for snacks.

That’s when the juice scam hit. I grabbed a 99¢ lemonade, but the cashier tried to charge my sister $2.58 for a $1.49 bag of chips. I guess he thought we were high, drunk, or rich. We weren’t any of the above — just hungry and annoyed. But hey, at least the store was open!

๐Ÿ’ƒ Inside Metro: Dancers, Drag & Delight

Back inside, the energy was building. Dancers in mesh, sequins, and sky-high boots strutted past like it was a Pride runway. The first few performances were… let’s say, finding their rhythm. But then two performers came through and turned it OUT.

One of them — I think his name was KJ or KJest — really brought it. My sister hollered when he did a slow-motion split. Then came another group that danced like they were in Beyoncรฉ’s formation tour. Clean, crisp, and crowd-hyping.

๐ŸŽค Drew Takes the Stage at 2:58 AM

Yes, 2:58 AM.
After waiting all night, Drew Sidora hit the stage and reminded us why we love her. She performed tracks from her new album, *“Drew” — and baby, it was giving vocals, stage presence, and grown-woman realness. The crowd went UP. It felt like a mix of ATL, RHOA, and classic 90s energy wrapped in glitter and pride.

๐Ÿฝ️ Post-Show Eats & Birthday Vibes

After the show, we hit up a late-night spot for food. Tired, tipsy, and satisfied. It had been 6+ hours of standing, singing, dancing, and surviving Uber rides, ticket drama, and juice scams — but it was worth it. My sister and I made a core memory, and I kicked off my birthday month with a night I’ll be talking about all year.

๐ŸŽต Final Review: Drew’s New Album Is THAT Girl

Her album “Drew” is available now on Spotify, and yes, I streamed it after the show. Favorites include “Too Many Things”, “Throw It Back”, and “Never Thought”. It’s a solid R&B project with a grown sound, great production, and emotional lyrics.

Drew Sidora may be known for reality TV, but make no mistake — she’s a real artist.

Would I do it all again?
Yes — just not with that Uber driver. ๐Ÿ˜…
